Lawmakers demand change from Wal-Mart

In an event at the Statehouse on Tuesday, Senator Jack Hatch of Des Moines called on major corporations to provide adequate wages and health insurance for their employees. Hatch said that Iowa taxpayers should not subsidize the profits of some of the largest corporations in the country by taking health insurance away from children that need it. To prevent this sort of abuse and corporate welfare, legislators want the tools to gather information to help ensure that Iowa’s largest employers do the responsible thing and pay the health care cost of their employees.
